Bucksport Community Theatre is located in the town of Bucksport, Maine, at the 18 mile epicenter of the three cities of Ellsworth, Bangor, and Belfast, where the Penobscot River empties around the island of Verona into a vast protected bay at the edge of the Atlantic.
BCT began as a distant goal for the Bucksport Area Cultural Arts Society. Following the completion of the Bucksport Middle School cultural arts Performing Arts Center in 2002, BACAS board members Joe Kennedy and Peter Clain spearheaded the creation and development of a local community theatre group.
Bucksport Community Theatre is a non-profit organization operating under the auspices of the Bucksport Area Cultural Arts Society.*
Following many grass-root organizational meetings and a large turn-out of many talented and committed area residents, the Bucksport Community Theatre offered our inaugural live theatre performance in the Summer of 2004 with the presentation of Meredith Willson's American classic, "The Music Man", and presented Neil Simon's "The Odd Couple" (female version) in four shows spanning two weekends in the winter of 2005. BCT presented Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Oklahoma!" in 2006, and "Cinderella" this past summer, delighting and amazing the public with a colorful display of our local talent.
Community leaders, individuals, companies, and private organizations are all invited to contribute charitable donations to BCT. Your tax deductible gifts will help provide the tools and materials needed to enhance our presentations. The net proceeds from our shows are earmarked to purchase priority items, including much-needed sound and light upgrades, a grand piano, and proper curtains and scrims for the stage. We are not even close to meeting our fundraising goals.
